They might, down home cooking!
Always.
Been going here since high school and it's consistently been great ever since. I usually just get potatoes and add a bunch of things to them but if you want a pancake bigger than your face this is the place to go!Always love the waitstaff here, even when it's busy, and their espresso bar has gotten pretty good!
Delicious food! I had the mushroom, spinach scramble and added bacon and avocado...Yum! Downsides were loud environment making it hard to have a conversation, and they were so busy it took a while for the food to arrive.
Edible Heaven!!!!!!I often dread eating out because the service is usually poor and the food isn't much better. This applies to the chain establishments as well. Shakabrah Java is heaven on Earth. From the customer service to the food to the atmosphere, everything is worth the trip.7 Stars if I could, *******
The biscuits and gravy is perfect as is the bacon. My son always gets their pancakes and loves them.
Good prices. Quick service. Very casual.
Great place for breakfast, the Huevos Rancheros is absolutely fantastic.
A nice cozy cafe/diner. VERY prompt service and good prices. The breakfast sandwich was a good homestyle sandwich and the french toast had great flavor. A side of the potatoes was inexpensive and had a big serving
I usually love the food, but my omelet was not as flavorful. There wasnt a lot of cheese, I barely tasted it and the potatoes were not as good. My daughter thought her potatoes were not flavorful also But the service is wonderful.
What a cool spot! I stopped by for breakfast which was served super quick and was amazingly yummy. It's got a very cool vibe, nice staff and a funky look. I'd come again if I'm in the area, the menu looked like you could eat here often without repeating yourself and enjoying it all the same. And tons of vegetarian options, which is hard to find!
After the dust settled after the coffee shop wars of the 90's. One place stood alone, triumphant and victorious. Its yummy teas, and awesomely brewed coffee stood Supreme. As others withered away and where lost to the seas of time.
I love the "coffee-shop-type" vibe of this place. The menu is full, prices are reasonable, and the food is great (especially their breakfast selections). Love dining here!
I have visited many different times and it was a warm experience! Yes reviews are important but don't trash this place! They are trying to be the best they can be. Yes the food is tasty and actually the portions are great. Remember visiting during the weekends and peak times the service will b slightly slower. Just arrive expecting great service & you will leave full and wanting to visit again..
Iconic vintage diner setting! The food is great, the atmosphere is buzzing with life. It gets very busy so keep that in mind , that is part of the experience.
The food was great! I couldn't eat it all, but the pancake was so good it didn't need syrup. I enjoyed our morning breakfast and recommend the stop.
Love this place. I go for the pancake (all you need is one they are huge) but everything is very tasty
Cowboy hash was great, server realized they made a mistake and got it remade before it hit the table. Extremely friendly staff. The food was hot and tasty.
One of the best breakfast places in town! It is always on the list of top places to choose from for our Saturday breakfast out.
I know people love this place. I'm more middle of the road. Coffee is good. The menu sounds great, but my food always comes out not quite right. Today I had an omelette and potatoes. The omelette came out room temperature. The cheese in the omelette wasn't melted. I'm not sure how that is possible. The potatoes were hot and good. The service is always slow, like they need more staff. Bottom line, if you go, make you have plenty of time and the potatoes.
Shakabrah is the kind of place where, if you have time, you can actually enjoy both the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Good moods, Good foods. Oh yeah, and the music is always good too lol.
Food was amazing! Environment was very much like a home feel!Staff is friendly and polite. Dont miss out on an opportunity to enjoy what tastes like good ol home cooking!
I recommend eating here. You will not be disappointed.
My favorite breakfast place in town. The service could be a little better, but the food was excellent.
Great service, Great food and a lot of it. I thought a bit expensive when I ordered but with the quantity and quality of food and service it's a deal and on reevaluation not so expensive. I'll be going there again.
Good food, good service.
Fantastic customer service, delicious food, huge portions! Oh... And fast free wifi!
BEST. POTATOES. EVER. seriously they were so good. I did the build your own potatoes and added in a few toppings and they were incredible. Waiters were friendly but only checked on us once.
Food is usually great, but the corned beef hash is extremely mediocre. Hash isn’t even mixed together. Home fries and corned beef are just put on a plate together. Potatoes are cold and pre made. Honestly not the greatest at all. I’ve had better food and service the plethora of times I’ve been here before. Definitely makes me not want to come back....wish it was a warmer, more welcoming staff. One server, and boy is she overwhelmed. It shows.
not at all impressed with the customer service my party received this last Tuesday. we walked in and sat down at the least dirty table, no greeting from any staff. we were there 15 minutes before we had to go back and get someone to clean the table, we were there another 5 before a customer told us we had to go order at the counter. i ordered over medium eggs and they were half cooked with egg snot all over the plate, the bacon was cold...no wait staff came and asked if everything was alright with the meal because they were all back in the closed off room chatting loudly with friends and eating their food. we only went here because of all the signs in the window saying they were the best in the neighborhood...yeah...NOT
I am gluten, dairy and soy sensitive. The staff at Shakabrah helped me pick out a menu item that fit the bill. The Portions sizes are generous and the food is delicious.
I don't care how long the line is, GO HERE.The hash and potatoes is homemade and truly magical. The country sausage gravy puts my dead mother's to shame. Even the drip coffee is tasty. The place and staff is fairly eclectic... Borders on hipster and I'm in love.
This is a great breakfast place. The food has such a great taste to it. It is worth the wait...and let me tell you, it's so good that it is well attended. You might have to wait a bit before you get your meal.
We were looking for a relaxed cozy spot where people were friendly and the coffee and food was good. We decided this place looked promising, but it was disappointing all the way around. The coffee was basic commercial drip coffee, my Mocha Latte was basically very sweet hot cocoa. Service was slow and indifferent. The food was on par with an IHOP or Denny’s. Pancake was huge, but nothing special as far as taste. Food is subjective, but I would not recommend.
Tasty food in a diner type atmosphere
Always a favorite destination. Drip coffee was delicious. Huevos Rancheros with a side of perfectly cooked links.
Initial person that we ordered from was clearly not happy to be there. However, food was SO GOOD and they have the best (and biggest) mimosas in town! The rest of the staff was incredibly friendly and wonderful!!! One of the best spots in Tacoma!
Definitely a different place than it was several years ago (for the better). Unique casual atmosphere. Very pleasant and attentive servers. Won't find their menu in many places, like salami and eggs on tacos which I had--was great. Generous portions with reasonable prices.
Just tried to eat here for the first time. My boyfriend didn't want to because he had a bad experience a few years ago with service but said he was willing to try again for me. We walked in and I was unsure of if we seat ourselves or not. The two staff on the floor indicated that we were to. They came and cleaned off a table for us and gave us menus. That was the last time we were spoken to. I should probably add that this is a Thursday afternoon so there were only two other tables in the restaurant. There was no indication that we needed to go anywhere to order so I would assume that someone would come to us. Nothing. We waiting from 12:31 to 12:46 and didn't even get asked if we wanted water or coffee. That was when we left. The server was just standing behind the bar dancing and we had been ready to order for almost 10 minutes.
We started our order with mimosas which were a lovely 70-30 champagne to juice ratio. For food I decided on the Baked Egg dish and a half portion of their Brioche French Toast. I love a good savory breakfast dish with eggs and toast and the Baked Egg hit the spot.
Great local hangout. Good food, awesome service.
Cowboy hash is SO good. They put magic in their potatoes 🤤
The best home style breakfast cooking anywhere!
Food was okay, very salty and not a lot of flavor in the breakfast potatoes. They were missing something and weren't crispy. The cappuccino I got want very good either. I have had an omelette here before that was good and my boyfriend's gravy on his biscuits and gravy was very creamy and tasty.
Casual, and easy going. Don't expect 5 star service, but expect to chill out and eat really good food. Sometimes it can take a while to come out. Be patient.
One of my absolute favorites for breakfast, or even a nice Sunday brunch. The Shaka Potatoes are delicious, and they have pancakes that even a hungry man would have trouble finishing. For the sophisticated adults, they also serve mimosas and bloody Marys! A must eat place on 6th Ave!
Always satisfied. Love this sweet little diner.
First time at this little diner. This food is great after a long night of drinking. Some good ol American food with a little touch of Hawaiian dishes like loco Moco. I've heard of this place a couple weeks ago and now I'm glad I visited it. Very delicious. We ordered the brisket hash and corned beef hash. Tacoma is really coming up with all of these little twists on American dishes.
So far the best place to get breakfast in Washington heading out there this morning for some great food and service!!!!!
Shakabrah is a pretty cool restaurant cause there's two sides to the restaurant. One side where you can sit and they'll serve you. The other side you sit anywhere, but you have to go up to the menu to order and put your dishes away yourselves. I ordered the Big Country Breakfast and in the description it said "literally a platter of food for you" and man they weren't wrong! Came with three eggs, their shakabrah potatoes, meat of your choice, and biscuits and gravy. They were out of their original gravy so I got the substitution of the brown gravy. The gravy was a bit salty.. but still good! Definitely have to get a dish with their famous potatoes. I will definitely come back here some day!
I wish I could say that I love their food but the quality is so inconsistent that I'm giving two stars. On more than one occasion I've literally had food brought out to me that was straight up burned. The thing is, their food is sometimes perfect and so good. Maybe they have high turnover with the cooks or hire people who don't know how to cook? If it wasn't for the friendly staff and the cheap prices I would probably never go there at all.
